We’ve recently completed membership interviews with several people and I’ve asked some of them to talk about why they’ve become part of the Christ Church family. Here’s Holly Van Lanken’s story: I began coming to Christ community at the beginning of this past fall. I had gone to another church in Athens, and while the Lord uses every church in further advancing his kingdom, the church I was going to just didn't feel like home. I didn't feel connected to fellow believers there even though I volunteered and I knew people. I just didn't have that Christ-centered community.
Last summer I went on Campus Outreach's Summer Leadership Project and found my community amongst the others involved in this ministry. I knew that many of them attended Christ Community and I decided to come check it out. Ever since that first Sunday it just felt right. I was encouraged by the sermon and by the conversations I got to have with others. It truly was a community of believers living life together. After some prayer and a time of decision making I chose to make Christ Community my church home and to be blessed by what the Lord was giving me.
I have loved living life with these people this year and growing together with them. I am graduating in about a week, but I’m super excited that I will be a part of the Protégé team and will be staying in Athens and getting to do ministry with my church family. I'm looking forward to seeing what the Lord does in the life of our church.
