Life together. If you have been around Christ Community Church for any length of time you have probably heard this expression. It encapsulates what I love about our church… the idea that following Jesus means to love God and love each other as we walk through the ups and downs of life in community. It is family.
The youngest members of our church family are the kids in The Grove. My involvement in The Grove started simply enough as my husband and I had a rambunctious 2-year old who needed a place to belong during the Sunday Gathering. I started volunteering and loved watching the kids learn about the Gospel in their classrooms. Volunteering led to an opportunity to serve on the Grove Advisory Board where I saw first-hand the hard work it takes to maintain our children’s ministry.
When Matt approached me about being the next director of the Grove, I hesitated. My time is not exactly my own. With two boys at home and a husband who works slightly unconventional hours, I wasn’t sure that I was up to the challenge. But I thought and prayed about it and realized that this is a way for me to love God and my church. I am a mom who is passionate about her kids and a former teacher who is crazy about all things related to organization and education. And I truly care about our church and the families in the Grove. I’m hoping that God can mash that all together and use me to serve our kids and point them to Jesus.
Where do we go from here? The Grove is an ever-evolving part of our church. As kids grow bigger and new babies are born, the numbers and needs of each class change. My goals as director are pretty straightforward. I want the Grove to continue to be a place where our kids learn about Jesus and have fun. I want to grow our network of volunteers and provide them with a well-organized place to serve. Finally, I want to improve communication with parents as we partner with them on Sunday mornings to create a grace-filled, Biblically sound environment for our kids. I am excited to see what God does over the next year!
