New Member: Jonathan Irby

In the coming weeks, we will be introducing our new members through sharing a little of their story. Our hope is that these stories will allow us to grow closer as a family as well as an avenue to share the story of our city.

I graduated from UGA in 2008 with an economics degree. Got involved with a campus ministry my senior year, and through that felt God calling me to full-time ministry.

In 2009 I joined staff with Athletes in Action, the sports ministry of Cru (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ).

I've been in Athens since 2004, and have yet to join a church. I've been really wanting to do that for about 3 years, and have taken the process pretty seriously. I started coming to Christ Community in the fall of 2011. I was invited by Justin Kimmell, who I've known since middle school.

I accepted Christ at age 5. For a while I wrestled with whether or not that could be a legit conversion since I was so young. When I look at my life though, I can clearly see God working in me all throughout it.

Evidences now: I have a passion for discipleship. I love seeing a young Christian develop in their understanding and appreciation of the Gospel, and then become someone who lives that out in their normal, daily lives and relationships in two ways: 1) Behavior that shows that Christ has changed their life and values, and 2) words that articulate their own story and the gospel.

I love what this church is about. I love that nothing thrills us more than God being God. I love that we want to train people for discipleship and develop leaders for the real world. I love that there are many people in my stage of life here (26, postgrad, and single). I love that Matt has taken initiative to develop me as a leader in what I do on campus.

Most of all though, I love that everything we do is driven by, motivated by, and empowered by the Gospel, which is most evident to me in the way communion is incorporated into every gathering.
